1Who we are
This website is run by Forgevault, based in Pretoria, South Africa ("we", "us"). We decide how your personal information is used, which makes us the responsible party under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). You can reach us at support@forgevault.live.
2What this covers
This policy covers this website, forgevault.live, and its launch list. Forgevault itself isn't available yet. Before we offer accounts, sales or downloads, we'll publish an updated policy that covers them.
3What we collect
- Launch list
- If you join it, your email address, when you joined, and when you confirmed it.
- Abuse protection
- A keyed hash of your IP address, which lets us limit sign-ups from one connection to five a day. We can't turn it back into your IP address, and we don't store the address itself.
- Emails we send
- A record of which emails we sent to which address, and when, so we can tell whether they were delivered.
- Server logs
- Our server doesn't keep logs of visitors' IP addresses. Its error logs record what went wrong, not who was visiting.
4Why we use it
- To confirm the address is yours, by sending one email with a link you click before you're added to the list.
- To tell you when Forgevault launches, with one email. Both of these are based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To stop abuse of the sign-up form, such as someone signing up other people's addresses. This is in our legitimate interest and yours.
We don't use your information for advertising, profiling or automated decisions, and we don't add you to any other mailing list.
5How long we keep it
- Unconfirmed sign-ups: deleted after 30 days if the link isn't clicked.
- Confirmed sign-ups: until we send the launch email, or until you leave the list. Either way, your address is then deleted.
- Records of emails sent: 90 days.
- Backups: copies of the database are kept for up to 14 days, so anything deleted is gone from backups within 14 days too.
7Where it's stored
The website and the launch list are stored on a server in South Africa. Zoho may process the emails we send in its data centres outside South Africa, such as in the United States, under its data processing terms, which provide the protection POPIA requires for transfers across borders.
9Your rights
Under POPIA, and laws such as the GDPR if you live in Europe, you can ask what information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, and withdraw your consent.
- Leave the launch list: use the link in any of our emails. Your address is deleted straight away.
- Anything else: email support@forgevault.live, and we'll reply within 30 days.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za, or to the data protection authority where you live.
10How we protect it
Every connection to the site is encrypted. The server accepts only key-based administrator sign-in, a firewall blocks everything except web traffic, and only we can reach the database.
11Children
The launch list is for people aged 18 or over. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
12Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If a change affects how we use your email address, we'll email you before it takes effect.
